The emphasis on enhancing the quality of an Institute of Higher Education has come into light with proliferation of Higher Education Institutions in the country. The quantity and quality of Higher Education Institutions, unfortunately, could not go hand in hand. The University Grants Commission initiated efforts to improve the academic as well as administrative quality of Higher Education Institutions. The establishment of Internal Quality Assurance Cell is one such initiative taken by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, now known as Ministry of Education with well specified mandate.
Gujarat Vidyapith established the IQAC in 2014. The IQAC at Gujarat Vidyapith works as a friend, facilitator and watchdog not only to maintain but also to improve upon the functioning of the entire system. With the rapid flow of information and data, it also acts as a filter and at the same time it disseminates works by the Gujarat Vidyapith faculty to larger audience.
The uniqueness of IQAC at Gujarat Vidyapith lies not only in the promotion of better-quality assurance in academic and administrative practices; but with a humane approach. In other words, ‘I do not want my house to be walled on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the culture of all lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any.’ (as quoted by the founder and first Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi in Young India, June 1, 1921).
